Evaluation 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Before using the camera, i had no idea on how to make it work and how to edit using final cut express. But then when i started practicing on how to use the camera and different camera angles, shots etc it was then easy for me. I also got the hang of how to use the final cut express. I asked a few of my class mates and they showed me basic things i could use but then i started exploring different effects which then made it easier for me to edit my 2 minute opening sequence. The only issue with the final cut express was that it would only work on macs and i didn't have a access to a mac at home which led us to a bit of a stress due to deadlines.
I have also learned how to use the tripod and how to place the camera on there. At first i didn't know we had to adjust the legs to make the tripod straight but i learned that the bubble by the tripod had to match the small dot that was placed on top of the tripod.

The software we have used to add onto our 2 minute opening were www.incomptech.com. This was used for us to add music to our opening sequence. We used a track called 'Long heaven' This was perfect for our opening sequence because it went a long with the slow flow of the drama and made it really realistic. We have also used the website www.dafont.com. This was used to add font. There were different types of font to choose from which made it difficult for us to choose from but in the end we got there. During editing i found that we needed more ambient sound in one of our scenes. So we went on www.freesfx.co.uk this allowed us to type in what sound we wanted to add. So we decided to add a dog barking. This allowed the audience to think that the dog represents danger which was the scene where one of our characters named Chloe gets bullied by Ashley.

Evaluation 4: Who would be the audience for your media product?

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my film opening would be teenagers.
The taste teenagers would have is quite casual for example
shopping in river island, top shop, new look etc. I think
teenagers music taste would be more of a hip hop & r n b
genre. As well as music i think the type of TV programme
teenagers would be interested in is Eastenders, Hollyoaks,
Coronation street.

Teenagers would be interested in watching my film opening because it exhibits on everyday life and it could relate to people their age because they would understand the story. Our audience is also teenagers because it's people like my self in this society. It is also everyday situations and we filmed in an urban area because it's people who are working class. We have used a white girl as a character being bullied because its a stereotype that she's innocent. We have also used a black girl as a character to be a bully because it is stereotyped that black girls are rude, out of control, causing trouble etc.

Evaluation 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have chosen the main character of my opening sequence who is Chloe (Ugne).

The odd girl out.

The appearance with this character is that she looks a bit scruffy.
This relates to my character because she looks scruffy for example
the hair and the make up smudged. The clothes the girl is wearing
is quite masculine and she doesn't look girly. My character is a bit more girly and less masculine.  Also she is dressed more geeky due to the fact
she's playing a role as a school girl. The genre of our opening sequence is Drama. So Chloe wrore uniform to show innocence.

My other character known as Ashley is dressed up all in black with a black hoodie. The black hoodie represents teenagers wearing similar things.

The similarities in this image is that Lindsey Lohan is playing a role of a girl who gets bullied when she first starts college however when she starts getting used to college she starts becoming popular. But the popular story line isn't the same as ours.
The differences is that Lindsey's clothes are not school uniform and she dresses very feminine.

Kidulthood

Kidulthood relates to my opening sequence because it's about loads of bullying. also the clothes they're wearing is school uniform.  Another way it relates to our opening sequence is the language used. In this film and our opening sequence swearing is used to make it more real life and dramatic. This links to my genre Drama because bullying is what happens in everyday life and teenagers like the ones in kidulthood are presented as working class. This film is trying to potray teenagers today as trouble makers, bullies, gang assosiated/members etc.

Evaluation 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

I created a 2 minute opening sequence based on the genre drama. The codes and conventions to drama is to exhibit real life situations.

The title of the film:
The title to my opening sequence is 'What goes around comes around' this relates to the genre of my opening sequence which is drama. It also relates to the actual story so this makes the audience understand why it is called 'What goes around comes around'.

Title font and style:
The title font we have used is PW Scolarpape. The reason for this is because it looks like a school type font which relates to the story of our opening sequence. This makes the audience think why and what is happening to the girl getting bullied. Finding a font for my opening sequence was a bit challenging because i wasn't sure if Scholar Paper Font would work well and look right for the scenes we have produced. However it did work well in the end because it fitted in with the whole 'school' theme.

Setting/location:
The setting and location me and my group have chosen is toilets and a block of flats. This conforms with the genre and codes of conventions as a typical place a bullying scene can take place. The toilets fits in with the scene of a girl reminicing her thoughts on her being abused etc. The block of flats relates to her being bullied whilst going to school which the uniform shes wearing shows this. We have also used a lift scene inside the block of flats. We used this because we had a canted scene of someone coming out the lift but only the shoes which gives it a mystery on who or what kind of person would it could be to bullying Chloe. The block of flats relates to a urban area and looks a bit old which reinforces the genre of Drama.

This is a drama called The Odd Girl Out it relates to my own opening sequence because we both used a toilet scene to reminisce feelings and to understand the emotion within the character. This gives the audience a sense of emotion.

Costumes and props:The costumes we chose was a school uniform to show the main story and make the audience understand it was a school girl getting bullied. For the other character we chose something with a hoodie and black leggings because the hoodie represented a hard/tough person and one of our class members wanted to black the role. A black girl was playing this tough role because sterotypically black girls are seen as trouble makers, tough, rude, etc. so we thought it would go well and fit in with the whole story. We developed the convention of a Drama film by using real life event to create a fictional story.

Camerawork and editing/Special effects:
In our film opening we have started it off with a girl standing infront of mirror. We started it off in a slow pace to give tension to our audience. The slow pace also gives the viewers and time to feel the suspense and confuses them to think why the girl would be standing infront of a mirror. It is quite common for drama films such as bullying to be standing infront of mirror to reminise all the feelings. Towards the middle of the opening sequence we stopped the slow pace music to when Ashley is getting introduced because at first it comes off as calm to create tension but now it gives it a more fast pace to make it more realistic and to show the personality of the character which is a tough person due to her being a bully.
We have used camera shots such as medium shit to show the surrounding and body of my character. We have also used medium shots on my other character. We also used panning to view the block of flats, this was used to show where the bullying was taken place. This location is common for Drama because it's in an urban area which shows it would be expected.
For editing we have used black and white effects to show that it is a flashback of what happened in the past. Another effect used was Vignette. This was used to make it clear that it was a flashback and to make it more dreamlike.

Story and how the opening sets it up:
The story is about a girl who is getting bullied and how it effects her life. The title of the film comes at the end to show the audience you would need to watch the whole film in order to know what it means.

The genre for this film Mean Girls is a comedy drama. It does not relate to our genre which is just drama but the story of the film does which is a girl who gets bullied when she starts a new school does relate to the story of our opening sequence.

Genre and how the opening suggests it:
The genre for my 2 minute opening sequence is drama. My opening sequence shows this is drama because it is based on a girl who gets bullied and this exhibits real life situations with realistic characters, settings and stories. This is a typical teen story.
The purpose of a dramatic story line is to move the audience emotionally.

How characters are introduced:
The characters are introduced in the first scene. This is the girl Chloe standing infront of a mirror. We put this as our first scene because it allows the audience to think who she could be and why she is standing infront of a mirror. The second character in my film opening who is Ashley playing the bully is introduced when we have a shot of her pushing the lift button and when she comes out of the lift we used a canted shot. We don't show her face in any of the scenes because it gives it a bit of mystery and tension on who this person could be. Ashley is introduced when it cuts to her saying 'Where you going bitch'. We thought this would work well because it gives it more of a better story.
