Introduction to editing

Establishing shot
- This is a long or extreme shot to show the important setting in the scene.







Shot reverse shot:

- Two shots with two characters typically in a conversation situation.









Cross cutting:
- Editing that alternates between shots occurring simultaneously
in two or more different location.



Match on action:
- A cut between two shots that places two different framings
of the same action next to each other, making it seem to
continue uninterrupted.




Eye-line match:
- A cut between two shots, in which the first shot shows a person  
 looking off in one direction, and the second shot shows either a
space containing what he or she sees or a person looking back in
 exactly the same position.

Recce

A recce is when you can see how your story/film will shape up in the location you have chosen. It also allows you to have preparation time.

Me and my group member decided to choose the location in a block of flats. This was near manor house.





The location here is a block of flats. The downfall to this was that we had to get a panning shot to put into our 2 minute opening sequence to make it clear to where we was filming, so the problem to this was people were walking past and it was really busy because of people talking so we had to cut the sound out of the shot.

                                                                              This is an ally way we have chosen to film one of our scenes in. This was taken near our college. The only problem to this was there were a lot of people talking and it was near a road so it was very busy. We had dialogue in this shot but when i was editing this we needed sound to make it clear to what was going on so we had to cut this scene out.

Chloe getting bullied scene:     We have used uniform for the character Chloe because she is the one being bullied therefore it makes more sense to the audience. Also we used uniform because the way she is dressed formal shows the innocence, whereas the character Ashley is wearing something in 'trend' which shows she goes against school uniform and breaks rules in school to show she is trouble maker. Ashley also looks tough. This relates to my genre Drama.

Ashley:
- Black hoodie: Ashley wore a black hoodie to represent what teenagers wear.
- Red shoes: We thought converses would look better with Ashley's costumes because converses are known to be a 'popular' brand and because Ashley is a bully she might want to keep up with the 'trend'
- Black leggings

Location:

- Block flats: This is chosen because it looks like a typical place you could see someone being bullied.
- lift: The lift scene allowed the audience to feel the tension on who it could be?
- toilets: This allowed the character Chloe to feel the emotions in herself. This would be a typical girl being bullied.

Camera shots:

- Pan
- Long shot

In this scene we have used a long shot to show the 2 characters in the scene and to show that is going to happen. We have also used it to show the location of where its being taken place.















- Close up

Chloe- Girl getting bullied by Ashley.

in this scene i have used a close up to show the smudged make up which refers to her crying due to the fact she was just bullied. This allows the audience to see what she really looks like.




- Canted

In this image we have used a canted angle because it gives almost trapped sense.



- High angle

Synopsis

The story is about a girl named Ashley who is aged 16, she was once bullied, so now she turns into a bully herself. She turns into a bully because she wants other people to experience what she’s been through. She was bullied because of her background and where she is from, she was born and grew up in Lithuania and came to the London when she was 10 so she still has a bit of an accent. The story is set in a block of flats, toilets and alley way. She was bullied at the age of 14 and did not ever speak about it or show anyone how she was feeling instead she would bottle it up.  But then when she started college she decided to do the things that happened to her which was bullying to get revenge back.

Storyboard and script.

This is part of the script me and my group member created. I found writing a script very useful because it allowed me to plan and know exactly what kind of scene we wanted and how it is going to be set. We layed it out by using EXT and INT.

We created our story board first so we could see what the dialogue should be and how it should be said.

This is an example i have found on the internet. I think making a storyboard for my groups opening sequence benifitted us a lot because it enables me to improve the quality by identifying the flaws or faults in the design. So this allows us to see if a particular scene works with the story. I have also found it useful because it gave ideas on what camera shots, angles we could use.

In our story board we changed a few things around because there were some scenes which wouldn't work and there was certain dialogue that wasn't really appropriate for the scene due to the fact that it's a opening sequence so there was a time limit.

The script i have looked at to get ideas for my opening sequence was Kidulthood. I looked at the way they speak which was informal and a lot of swearing. This sterotypes the fact on how teenagers are seen and spoken.


Mooney: F**KING HELL MAN
Trife: What blud?
Mooney: DIDN’T I TELL THEM, NO ONIONS?

This is part of a line that was between 2 boys who were known as 'bad boys'. This reinforces the ideology on how teenage boys are bound to speak in this generation.
